Year 2 experiment during Science Week

On Thursday, we had the best time investigating CONNECTIONS during British Science Week. We delved into the highly electrifying world of circuits, motors, conductors, batteries and electricity. But we didn’t stop there, we went on to make bridges out of paper, watched blotting paper, water and felt tips make a beautiful rainbow pattern. We even investigated air pressure using a candle, coloured water and a bell jar. Did you know that every 1000 metre increase in altitude causes the temperature to go down by 6 degrees centigrade. So the candle burnt out quickly when the bell jar was placed over it because the oxygen was snuffed out; but the coloured water started rising in the bell jar to show us that as the air inside the jar cooled and water displaced air. It was fascinating!
